Mark 4:39-40 (NIV): “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to His disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'”

Life often brings storms—trials, uncertainties, and difficulties that test our faith. In Mark 4:39-40, we see Jesus and His disciples caught in a literal storm. The disciples, though they had witnessed Jesus’ power before, were filled with fear. But Jesus, with just a word, calmed the wind and the waves, demonstrating His sovereignty over all creation.
This passage reminds us that Jesus is always in control, even when we feel overwhelmed by life’s storms. Fear can make us forget God’s power and presence, but faith calls us to trust in Him even when we cannot see the way forward. Jesus’ words challenge us: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” This is an invitation to shift our focus from fear to faith, from uncertainty to trust in the One who holds everything in His hands.
