“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” — Ephesians 2:4–5 (NIV)
***
Before we met Jesus, we weren’t just lost — we were dead. Not physically, but spiritually. Our hearts were disconnected from the source of life: God Himself. Sin didn’t just make us bad — it made us dead. We lived by our own desires, followed the world’s empty patterns, and chased after things that never satisfied. But God, rich in mercy, didn’t leave us in that state. Because of His love, He brought us from death to life.
This transformation is more than just a fresh start. It’s a resurrection. It’s not us trying harder or turning over a new leaf — it’s God breathing His Spirit into our souls and giving us His life. We don’t save ourselves. We are saved by grace, through faith, and made alive with Christ.
Think about a phone that’s completely dead. No matter how fancy it is, it’s useless without power. It needs to be plugged into the source to work. That’s how we were spiritually — lifeless until connected to the One who gives life.
A young woman once shared her story with me. She had grown up in a good family but fell into depression and drug use in university. She felt empty and numb — like she was walking in darkness. When she encountered Jesus through a friend who prayed for her, everything changed. She described the moment as “feeling life rush into my bones.” Her addiction broke, her heart healed, and today she’s a counselor helping others find that same life in Christ.
The world tries to offer temporary highs, but only Jesus offers true life — eternal, joyful, purposeful, and abundant. If you’re in Christ today, you’re not who you used to be. You’ve been raised from death to life.
Prayer
Father, thank You for rescuing me from spiritual death and bringing me to life through Jesus Christ. I am no longer a slave to sin or shame, but alive and free in Your love. Teach me to live fully in the new life You’ve given me. Help me to walk in Your Spirit, bear Your fruit, and shine as a witness of Your grace. May others see Your power at work in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
